Beautiful colorful work by the painter from Roubaix, Arthur Van Hecke, depicting a bouquet of flowers, most likely a branch of apple blossoms, in a vase on a console.
The artist uses a palette of bright, luminous colors, which brings the work to life.

Arthur Van Hecke grew up in Roubaix, raised by his grandparents after his parents’ separation. Passionate about painting from the age of 12, he copied works by Belgian masters such as James Ensor and Paul Permeke, while working as a factory worker in a textile plant at 13.

During World War II, he joined the Free French forces and participated in the liberation of the Dunkirk pocket, while raising three daughters with his wife, Fernande Lamarque. Self-taught, Van Hecke began painting seriously after the war and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Roubaisiens and in various galleries. His meeting with Roger Dutilleul opened an atelier for him in Roubaix, facilitating access to collections and exhibitions.

In 1961, settled in Petit-Fort-Philippe, he founded the Groupe de Gravelines with other artists, creating a printmaking fund that gave birth to the Musée du dessin et de l’estampe originale de Gravelines, inaugurated in 1982. Van Hecke settled permanently in Hondschoote the same year, where he continued to create until his death in 2003.

Nb: A minor old restoration, without impact, is visible on the back of the canvas.
