Description from the seller

"Mas in Provence"

Oil on canvas,
Signed at the bottom right,

Beautiful work by the Marseille painter Ange Supparo depicting a mas under the sun of a summer day, in the surroundings of Marseille or Porquerolles where the artist liked to paint. The artist plays with light and contrasts.

A pupil at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille, Ange Supparo frequented various salons: those of French artists and of the National Society of Fine Arts of the Sea.
He took part in exhibitions in Marseille, presenting landscapes and seascapes.
In 1900, the Vignon Gallery organized an exhibition of his works in Paris.
He became the official painter of the Ministry of Colonies, he settled in Madagascar where in 1913 he founded the School of Fine Arts in Tananarive. He notably had pupils: Antoine Ratrena (1881-1955), Gaston Rakotovao (1891-1941) and Henri Ratovo (1881-1929).

Note: An old minor restoration, without impact, is visible on the back of the canvas.

Dimensions: 38 x 61 cm without frame and 47 x 69.5 cm with the original carved and re-gilded wooden frame.
