Iacob - Chiaroscuro: Tensione

Chiaroscuro shapes the tension of the composition and highlights the careful study of anatomy. The figure’s concentrated posture, the hand placed over the heart, and the sword held defensively suggest restrained tension and a sense of inner control, intensified by the contrast between the body, the red drapery, and the black background. Oil on canvas, 75 × 55 cm, 2026, signed on the reverse, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The work is constructed using the camaïeu technique and developed through successive transparent glazes. Applied in thin, properly dried layers, this method supports the painting’s long-term stability, reduces the risk of cracking, and allows for gradual anatomical modelling, tonal depth, and controlled painterly effects.

About the artist:
Iacob Mircea holds both a BA and an MA in Painting, and is currently in the final year of his PhD in Painting, all completed with merit scholarships. His artistic path reflects a wide professional range, from having his studio at the Palace of Culture in Ploiești to engaging in international projects in New York, including a partnership with Ralph Lauren.
He has presented numerous solo exhibitions in Romania and abroad, participating both independently and as part of the academic group of the National University of Arts in Bucharest.
