Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained fame in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, placing him that same year among the top ten sculpture artists under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its work FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl on his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, encouraged by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to merge his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at Galerie Isy Brachot in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition mixing paintings, sculptures, and video elements at Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl especially likes unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his works One Dollar on the theme “In God We Trust” at Galerie Artco France. His 2016 solo exhibition at Galerie Atrium in Marbella, Spain, was opened by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world horse championship in Lexington, where he created a sculpture of a horse dedicated to the event. In 2012, he gave Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the entrance to the town. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Film Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptures “One Dollar”, which earned him a place among Artprice’s top ten sculptors under 30 in the world.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing from “Cryptogramme One”, he created a trophy in mirror-polished aluminum casting, displaying messages such as “Hope”, “7e Art” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy, inspired by a emblematic Deauville symbol: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabanas on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a Jesus statue surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, inspired by his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” to the trophies.
