Biography:
Wags, born in Paris in 1970, embodies the journey of a polymorphic artist whose creativity has unfolded from electronic music to contemporary graphic art. Coming from a family where art was already present thanks to his father, a draftsman, Wags discovers at a very young age his first passion, musical creation. This passion guides him in his youth, and his early talents lead him to make a bold decision: to invest the money intended to fund his higher education to invest it in creating his first album.
Distributed by EMI, the album does not meet the expected success, but it marks the beginning of a rich artistic career full of experiments.
Parallel to his musical career, Wags engages in the world of advertising as a designer/writer for the iconic Playboy magazine. For many years, he puts his creativity at the service of the publication by creating and producing the magazine’s advertising campaigns.
The turning point of his career comes in 2005 when he becomes a cameraman, thus exploring a new facet of the visual world. In 2007, he discovers a passion for photography, adding another artistic string to his bow. In 2010, he successfully founds his own photo agency, highlighting his entrepreneurial spirit.
In 2017, Wags makes a radical choice to sell his agency to fully embrace graphic art, influenced by his son, who has become a major figure in world street art. A pioneer of computer-aided artistic creation, Wags distinguishes himself with more than 3000 works sold in galleries and online to date.
Wanting to explore new artistic universes, Wags is none other than Kobalt who signs under this pseudonym in order not to interfere with his usual work.
This contemporary figurative painting draws inspiration from classic realism and a modern glamorous aesthetic. Collectors who appreciate the light of Joaquín Sorolla, the mastery of Anders Zorn, the elegance of John Singer Sargent, as well as the worlds of Richard S. Johnson, Pino Daeni, Jack Vettriano, Fabian Perez and Jeremy Lipking will find in this work a mood and a lighting treatment that are familiar to them.
