Romain Rolland, Oeuvre de Romain Rolland, a four‑volume Nouvelle Édition in French, first edition (1921), 380 pages, bound in brown half‑leather with gilt tooling, on Hollande paper, limited to 300 numbered copies.
Description from the seller
Rare complete copy of the head edition on large paper, a superb opportunity for bibliophiles!
I am selling the complete 4-volume set of the major work by Romain Rolland, Jean-Christophe (New Edition), published in Paris by Librairie Ollendorff.
Present volumes: Volumes I, II, III and IV (100% complete series).
Justification of the exceptional edition: One of the very rare copies printed on Hollande paper, a rag paper of exceptional quality and durability. This sought-after limited edition was strictly limited to only 300 numbered copies.
Features & Condition:
Binding: Superb and uniform period half-ch leather binding. Spine with false nerves richly ornamented with compartments, magnificent cornerpieces and gilded fillets. Title and volume labels neatly printed. Very handsome overall effect, very elegant on a shelf.
Interior: High-quality Hollande paper, remains very clean and fresh, offering excellent historical solidity.
Overall condition: Good overall use. The bindings are solid. A few small epidermal scuffs and localized wear on the leather are noted (notably a slightly worn gilding on the back of Volume III, see photos), which is perfectly normal for books of this era and attests to their authenticity.
A complete series on such large paper and in this period binding is difficult to assemble. Ideal to enrich a fine collection of old books.
