The nostalgic (from nostalgia). Oil painting on canvas, refined in the layering of colors and in the vibrant, clear and light brushstrokes.
The work belongs to a period in which the artist conducted a search for renewing a lost identity, also through mythological stories and many symbols of femininity and identity.

The work represents a woman immersed in an environment that can be freely interpreted, even if it leans toward natural aspects with the presence of small dragonflies around. The subject can be compared to the figure of a Goddess, on the human side and always current, in search of her ancestral identity, she cuts her braid to renew herself and rewrite a new story.

The eyes and the naturality of the body are always paramount, not perfect according to conventional aesthetic canons, not exposed to pleasure, but bearing witness, itself of the entire message, which communicates security and dignity, going beyond mere observation.

Jara Marzulli
was born in Bari and graduated from the Bari Art High School and later from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari with top marks, while since 1998 she has participated in exhibitions and competitions, quickly earning recognitions, awards and important selections.
Her figurative, realist painting style quickly became recognizable and from 2004 international experiences began through fairs, biennials and important exhibitions.

Her art grows and tells of a feeling that is at once ecstatic and carnal, made even more incisive and moving by the technical perfection that distinguishes the artist. A lucid and wrenching expressive quality, an indefinable purity that wears itself in painting, a constant play of displacements, of role reversals between the artist who paints and the depicted subject.

Numerous are the prestigious Biennales and art exhibitions where she exhibits in Italy and abroad, such as in Turkey, at the Art Taipei Fair, Taiwan, China at Red Elation Gallery, Hong Kong, at the MEAM Museum, Barcelona, Dublin, at the Mainz Museum, Buenos Aires in Argentina and in London.

Jara Marzulli’s figures have intense, direct, frontal gazes. They have the dignity of subjects ready to respond with great immediacy. The characters that almost completely occupy the canvas space manage to visually represent men, women, girls and boys who seem to recognize the observer as a stranger, support their gaze, repel him, distance themselves to defend the silence of their precious inner world.
