Being One represents one of the central themes of Maurizio Castagna’s artistic research: the idea of unity as the origin and destination of every form of energy, matter and consciousness. Through a free and dynamic composition, the artist constructs a space in which the painterly gesture does not describe reality, but evokes its invisible and profound forces.
The surface is the result of a complex stratification of pigments, resins, acrylics and material interventions that generate chromatic vibrations and spatial tensions. Signs, traces and luminous areas coexist in a constantly suspended balance between impulse and control, chance and intention, creating a painting that develops as an emotional experience before it is a visual one.
The work fits within the tradition of Informal Art and Abstract Expressionism, languages that Castagna has absorbed and transformed into a personal research based on gesture as direct expression of interiority. Each sign preserves the memory of the action that generated it, while the painting material becomes a place of sedimentation of time, emotion and thought.
Trained at the Albertina Academy of Turin, Maurizio Castagna boasts a long artistic career documented by publications in Bolaffi and Giorgio Mondadori catalogues, by a monograph dedicated to him, and by the presence of his works in public and private collections in Europe, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, China and Japan. His more recent production develops a reflection on the relationship between art, energy and the spiritual dimension, themes that find in Being One a particularly effective and intense synthesis.
