Gaston Chérau – Champi-Tortu, two-volume edition, later edition published by Ernest Flammarion in Paris around 1919–1920, in French as the original language, with a demi red morocco binding, 498 pages, in excellent condition, includes a signed inscription by Gaston Chérau to Marcel Ballot.

CHÉRAU (Gaston). Champi-Tortu. Paris, Ernest Flammarion, Publisher, 26 Rue Racine, New edition, around 1919-1920. Complete set in 2 volumes, octavo.
Beautiful contemporary binding in red half morocco with corner pieces, smooth spine richly ornamented with gilded fillets and tools, titles and volume numbers in gold, marbled boards in shades of pink, red and black, matching endpapers.
An especially remarkable copy, enhanced by a signed inscription from Gaston Chérau to Marcel Ballot, dated January 7, 1920:
“To Marcel Ballot, his friend who has never forgotten what the literary critic of Le Figaro did for Champi-Tortu. With my faithful gratitude. Gaston Chérau. January 7, 1920.”
Fine copy in very good condition: elegant bindings, fresh gilding, clean and well-preserved interiors. A very agreeable association copy, witness to the author’s relations with the literary critic of Le Figaro.
