On a bleached wooden veranda facing the dunes, a blonde in a pink T-shirt tied at the waist—with the word “amore” printed in red—and royal blue bikini bottoms stands tall, back arched, head tilted back, eyes closed: she drinks in the light. Behind her, a flowering oleander, the white balustrade, the sand, the foamy edge, the deep blue sea, and an intensely azure sky. Semiotically, the pose—chin raised, throat offered—belongs to the iconography of ecstasy, here entirely secularized: the sun is the only god, the skin the only altar. The pink of the flowers corresponds to the pink of the cotton, the blue of the bikini to the blue of the sea: the woman is literally sewn to her landscape.
