Description from the seller

Full parchment rigid binding with gold tooling on the spine and the title, date, place and manuscript monogram. Red edges.

1 blank leaf, [24], 284, 1 blank leaf

The Problems (or Problemi) are a vast and famous encyclopedic collection of scientific, philosophical and medical questions organized in questions and answers. Although traditionally attributed to Aristotle, scholars agree that the work was compiled by the Peripatetic school between antiquity and the 6th century CE, combining elements from different eras. The work is considered a pillar of the history of thought for its method of inquiry, and it has been a fundamental reference throughout the Middle Ages and beyond, thanks also to the commentaries of famous scholars such as Pietro d'Abano.

Beautiful two-color title page engraved full page with a marginal note handwritten by an ancient hand at the top margin. Double ex libris affixed to the flyleaf. Numerous decorated initial capitals. Restorations at the lower corner of the last 6 leaves. Moreover, the copy is in excellent condition: very clean, usable and complete.

Extremely rare.
