Description from the seller

Claire Bertrand (1890-1969) was a French painter and draftsman. Trained at the Académie Julian and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, she attended the workshops of René Ménard and Lucien Simon, then became associated with painter Willy Eisenschitz, whom she married in 1914. Close to the Parisian and Provençal artistic circles, she mingled with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, and Albert Marquet. Her work, marked by an expressionist sensibility, mainly consists of landscapes and portraits where color and light play a central role.
