AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Marin-Marie (1901-1987), born Paul Emmanuel Durand Couppel de Saint-Front, is a French painter, draftsman, illustrator, and writer, considered one of the great marine painters of the twentieth century. Born into a family passionate about the sea, he develops early a taste for navigation and drawing. He attends the evening classes at the École des beaux-arts de Paris and exhibits from the 1920s.

Close to the maritime and artistic circles, he becomes a friend of navigator and explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot, with whom he sailed aboard the Pourquoi Pas ?. He exhibited notably alongside artists such as Foujita and Maurice Utrillo early in his career. His work, mainly devoted to seascapes, ships, and great crossings, is distinguished by the precision of his line and the poetry of his lights. He was named Official Painter of the Navy in 1935.

Four small gaps in the drawing are present, potentially due to an old circular frame.
