Explanation of the work:

Steel is one of the hardest and most durable materials we have. As a master of steel, I am used to feeling its hardness and strength, and when I see that force represented in the essence of metal sculptures, with this new collection I want to do the opposite, something even more complex: to endow it with sensitivity and to deceive the viewer, showing a sculpture made of hard, resistant steel that looks like silk, that appears to be a sensitive and elegant piece, simple and delicate yet visually powerful.

They are pieces of stainless steel finished with reliefs, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. With them I seek a more relaxed elegance and the desire to create a deception in the viewer’s mind, like a trompe l’oeil.

They are forged pieces made with utmost care, in an idyllic setting, in complete connection with steel and art. They arise with the sound of each fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there the notes of their movements—seemingly wrinkled and open—flow.

I am seduced by artisanal and groundbreaking designs, so, with these vertical, wall-mounted sculptures, I focus on becoming part of a new reality, where I seek color, texture, and sinuous forms. Who would say it’s steel? These sculptures, with a magically wrinkled appearance, make me revere this primitive material, for it makes everything possible, with no limits to creation or to creativity. Even steel can seem as light as silk.

The piece plays a mirrored effect that makes light bounce and generates spectacular play of light and shadow, creating a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

Hangs easily like a painting.

José Soler is a sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring to the surface the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites the conversion of cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
