Lapponia Shuttle ring in silver, unisex, designed by Björn Weckström, weight 12.28 g, circa 1970s–1980s, vintage modernist sculptural design from Finland, with no laboratory report.
Description from the seller
Lapponia “Shuttle” ring – design by Björn Weckström
Material: silver
Ring size: 17.25 mm
Length of the ring head: 3 cm
Period: approx. the 1970s–1980s
Origin: Finland
Style: modernist / sculptural design
An impressive statement piece — powerful, artistic and unmistakably Lapponia.
This sculptural Shuttle ring from Lapponia is a powerful example of the progressive Finnish design from the 1970s. Designed by Björn Weckström (1935–2023), the most famous designer of Lapponia, this ring stands as a symbol of his fascination with space travel, natural forces and abstract forms. The ring has a strong, architectural form with sharp lines and flowing planes that evoke a spacecraft or rocket shape — hence the name Shuttle. The design seems almost carved from silver, which perfectly aligns with Weckström’s philosophy: jewelry as portable sculptures.
The matte and polished surfaces create a beautiful play of light and shadow, allowing the ring to take on a different character from every angle. This makes the piece not only striking, but also timelessly modern.
Lapponia was worldwide known in this period for its avant-garde designs and worked exclusively with leading designers. Björn Weckström gained international fame when his jewelry was worn in the Star Wars films, which definitively gave his work iconic status.
This ring is a beloved collectible among enthusiasts of modernist design, Scandinavian jewelry and vintage Lapponia.
