Description from the seller
"Tinder Boy 5", oil on card, 22.8 x 21 cm, 2026
Oil painting on 1 mm thick card.
Signed and dated in the bottom right corner.
Painting with varnish.
The series "Tinder boy" starts from images received by different women on dating apps and social networks, where the body of the man is often exposed in search of an immediate reaction. Many of these images are sent without being requested, reflecting a culture of communication increasingly marked by speed, the incessant circulation of images and the constant need to provoke and capture the other’s gaze.
The series seeks to reflect on this gaze circuit: the pleasure of being seen, the pleasure of looking and how both feed each other in a visual and communicative economy where images are produced to be consumed in an instant of attention, before being quickly replaced by others, in the simple gesture of sliding to the next. Between humor and irony, these paintings question a culture in which the body becomes an image, the image becomes a consumer object and desire increasingly blends with the need for exposure and with the desire to exist through the gaze of the other.
Patrícia Trindade (1989) is a Portuguese artist with a degree in Plastic Arts and a Master’s in Painting, both from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Although she has devoted over the years to several painting series with various themes, the male figure has become the central element of her work. It has served as a motif for various approaches and narratives - from the objectification of the body, to eroticism, to homosexuality and voyeurism – which question the usual representations of virility and the passivity of genders in iconographic representations.
*IMPORTANT: Due to restrictions imposed by Portuguese carriers and shipping limitations beyond my control, orders will not be shipped to the United States.*
