Flag of the Italian Communist Party (Partito Comunista Italiano), 88 x 142 cm, Italy, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Flag of the PCI.
The flag of the PCI (Partito Comunista Italiano) represents the former Communist Party of Italy. The flag typically features a red field with the party's iconic symbols: the red star, the hammer-and-sickle emblem, and often the Italian tricolor in the corner. The color red symbolizes socialism, the workers' movement, and the fight against fascism and inequality.
The PCI was founded in 1921 and grew into one of the largest and most influential communist parties in Western Europe. During World War II, the party played an important role in the resistance to Mussolini's fascism. After the war, it remained for decades a major political actor, especially at the local level and within unions and cultural organizations.
In 1991 the party was officially dissolved following the fall of the Soviet Union and changing political dynamics. The PCI was succeeded by new leftist groups, including the Partito Democratico della Sinistra (PDS), which later became part of broader progressive movements within Italy. Although the original party no longer exists, the flag remains a recognizable symbol of historical Italian communism and the workers' struggle of the 20th century.
