"Cabinet of curiosities" gathers a series of figurative paintings that explore a territory where observation, memory, and imagination coexist without hierarchies. Like the ancient cabinets of curiosities, these works present a heterogeneous set of images, objects, characters, and scenes that invite contemplation and discovery. Each painting functions as an autonomous piece, but also as part of an open collection in which the everyday dialogues with the extraordinary, the intimate with the symbolic, and the recognizable with what escapes a univocal interpretation. There is no linear narrative or a single key to reading; the paintings propose free associations, small suspended narratives, and fragments of a universe in constant expansion. Figuration becomes here a flexible language that does not seek to reproduce reality, but to expand its possibilities. The represented elements act as vestiges, enigmas, or testimonies of experiences that oscillate between the real and the imagined, awakening the viewer's curiosity and encouraging careful attention. Rather than offering answers, “Cabinet of curiosities” champions the pleasure of observing, of pausing on the detail, and of accepting mystery as an essential part of the aesthetic experience. Each work is an invitation to discover unexpected connections and to build a personal path within this collection of images, where every finding opens the door to new questions.

Carlos Asensio was born in Castellón in 1986. At a young age he began his academic formation under the tutelage of the Cuban artist Amaury Suárez.

He holds a Doctorate in Fine Arts, with a summa cum laude rating, and has a Master’s in Artistic Production from the Universitat Politècnica de València. He also completed a Studio Program at the Berlin Art Institute where he received lessons from renowned artists such as Bernhard Martin, Larissa Fassler, Nikola Röthemeyer, or Various & Gould. His research work has led him to participate in several international university conferences, as well as to publish in humanities journals such as Human Review or Peter Lang.

Among his achievements are several solo exhibitions, including those held at the Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente in Fuenlabrada, the Museo Municipal de Albacete, and the Centro 14 in Alicante. Regarding group shows, he has exhibited nationally and internationally. In the collective Ciclamen for the Galería Léucade in Murcia, a collaborative project at the DXIX Projects space in Fort Collins, in two editions of the Open Studios of GlogauAIR, or BAAM#3 at Monopol Berlin. The itinerant exhibition titled Atlas del Arte Español, held at the Exhibition Hall of the Junta Municipal de Usera, the Mauro Muriendas Hall in Torrelavega, and the O Vello Cárcere Cultural Center in Lugo. The various exhibitions carried out with the Infinity Art project at fairs such as the Amsterdam Affordable Art Fair, Art Madrid, or Estampa in the Spanish capital. The 2019_n3 collective exhibition at Piramidón Centre D’Art Contemporani in Barcelona, the Art Spring 2019 event held in Berlin, six editions of Marte International Contemporary Art Fair in Castelló, the III Bienal de las Artes Ciutat Vella Oberta in Valencia, or the II Call of La New Fair in Madrid.

Additionally, some of his pieces are present in important private collections such as the Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno and Piramidón Centre D’Art Contemporani in Barcelona, the Museo Arte Contemporanea Sicilia in Catania, and public institutions such as the Museu de la Ciutat de Castelló. On a personal level, his work is present in collections in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, and the United States.
