Very good condition of the binding, the work in its full Hetzel publisher’s binding signed by Engel, known as “to the fan and to an elephant,” flat and gilded in a double frame featuring an elephant’s head and the title in the fan, the first cover with gilded scientific instruments in the foreground, three gilded illustrations and green foliage, the second cover of Engel type “i” according to Jauzac, light wear, corners and headcaps somewhat worn, all edges gilded, spine with a beacon motif, gilded titling and author’s name –
