Estimated period 1940-1950; material: wood; a Swedish hand-painted sewing box on legs dating from 1945 with Kurbits motifs, in good vintage condition with minor signs of age; dimensions 62 cm high, 40 cm wide, 30 cm deep.
Description from the seller
An atmospheric and authentic Swedish sewing box from 1945, richly hand-painted in the traditional Kurbits style. This charming piece combines practical use with Scandinavian folk art and forms a beautiful decorative object for any interior.
On the inside of the lid, the name "Julia" together with the year 1945 is hand-applied, giving this sewing box a personal and historical character. In Sweden, such sewing boxes were often painted as wedding or family gifts and provided with the name of the first owner and the year. The colorful floral motifs are characteristic of the Kurbits painting from the Dalarna region, a painting tradition that has been used since the 18th century and is still regarded as an icon of Swedish folk art.
The box stands on elegantly turned legs with connecting rails and features a spacious storage compartment with a removable partition for thread, scissors and other sewing supplies. Under the box there is also a practical sliding drawer. Thanks to the attractive design, this piece is not only suitable as a sewing box but also excellent as a side table or decorative storage chest.
The sewing box is in good vintage condition with signs of wear corresponding to its age of about eighty years. The painting is largely well preserved and has a beautiful warm appearance. And the keys for the lock are missing.
