Raku vase by Martina Corti, handmade and wheel-formed on white chamotte clay with a crackled grey glaze, 17 cm high, 8 cm wide and 8 cm deep, made in Italy (Lombardia, Lecco) in a contemporary style; condition: like new (never used).

Raku Vase
Height: 17 cm
Because this is handmade craftsmanship, there may be slight variations in size and color compared to the photos and among different pieces in the same series.
A vase shaped and turned by hand, with crackled gray tones glazed on a body of 5% chamotte white clay.
The piece was created using the Raku process. A traditional Japanese ceramic firing technique dating back to the 16th century. This method is characterized by its spectacular and unpredictable aesthetics, with glazes and decorations that often take on unique and unrepeatable effects.
The piece was fired in a neutral atmosphere in a first firing for about nine hours at 880ºC and subsequently, after applying the glaze, it was fired in a second firing in a gas oven at 980°C,
Once the object reaches the desired temperature and the glazes have fused, it is quickly removed from the oven with tongs.
Once removed from the oven, the object was immediately immersed in a combustible material (in this case sawdust).
This causes an accelerated oxidation reaction, which leads to cracks in the glaze. You can find a demonstration on my Instagram account @martinasementia
The vases themselves are highly vitrified and waterproof; there is nothing toxic or dangerous that could leak out.
Remember, this is not factory-made, mass-produced ceramic; each vase is unique. All pieces are entirely handmade, wheel-thrown, and glazed in my studio in Lecco, Italy
