Norman painter born in 1924, Claude Gaignoux establishes himself as one of the region’s most sensitive artists to the light of ports and maritime landscapes. Settled permanently in Normandy, he develops a body of work where port scenes, the shores of the English Channel, seascapes and changing skies prevail. His style, at once sober, luminous, and deeply atmospheric, favors soft harmonies and balanced compositions.
Gaignoux regularly exhibits in Norman galleries and participates in several regional exhibitions, where his work is appreciated for its observational accuracy and sense of pictorial silence. His canvases, often imbued with discreet poetry, appeal to lovers of figurative painting attached to coastal landscapes. He died in 2005, leaving a coherent, elegant body of work sought after by collectors of Norman painting of the 20th century.
