Henri Hecht Maïk (1922–1993) is a singular French painter, heir to an imagination that is naïve, poetic and deeply personal. Son of the engraver Joseph Hecht, he began painting in the mid-1950s and quickly developed a recognizable universe: dreamer animals, luminous landscapes, fantastic trees, all carried by a self-conscious childlike sensibility.
Often described as a “modern primitive,” Maïk charms with the freshness of his line, the softness of his colors and the tenderness that emanates from every scene. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in France and internationally, as well as at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, which confirms his special place in 20th‑century figurative painting.
In the market, Maïk’s works are sought after for their timeless charm, immediate readability, and strong decorative power. They naturally find their place with collectors devoted to poetry, dreaminess and a form of soft modernity.
