Description from the seller
MiLo (1976), Netherlands
Title: Slate Blooms
A contemporary botanical abstraction in which five expressive blooms rise across a luminous off-white surface. Painted entirely in professional acrylics using rich slate-grey tones, the composition possesses a quiet, atmospheric character, balancing bold organic forms with an elegant sense of vertical movement.
Executed in acrylic on canvas, the painting combines textured circular blooms with fluid, gestural stems and spontaneous splashes of paint. The elongated vertical format reinforces the upward rhythm of the composition, while the restrained monochrome palette allows texture, contrast and negative space to take centre stage.
Rather than depicting flowers in a literal sense, Slate Blooms explores repetition, balance and abstraction. The work invites different interpretations—botanical forms, natural rhythms or simply an arrangement of expressive marks—making it equally at home in contemporary, Scandinavian or minimalist interiors.
About the Artist
MiLo (1976) is a Dutch contemporary artist whose work explores the meeting point of abstraction and organic form. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he creates compositions characterized by expressive brushwork, subtle texture and carefully balanced negative space. His paintings are held in private collections throughout Europe, the United States and Asia.
The artwork is painted with professional acrylic paints on high-quality cotton canvas and will be carefully packaged for safe international shipping.
I actually think Slate Blooms is one of the strongest titles in this botanical series. It has a refined, contemporary feel and doesn’t pigeonhole the work into being merely “black flowers.”
