Dijkstra - Flower pot - Brass - Friese Cache-Pot

This antique yellow-brass ('cache-pot' / flower pot) was manufactured by the famous Frisian coppersmith Klaas Dijkstra from Sneek.

The pot has a cylindrical shape. At the bottom there are three feet, shaped like lion's claws. On the wall of the pot are two handles fashioned as lion heads, each holding a ring in its mouth. The pot is engraved. The decoration consists of two landscapes: one with a mill and another depicting a village scene by the water. Additionally, the space between the scenes is filled with floral motifs.

In 1914, coppersmith Klaas Dijkstra (1895-1969) started his own workshop in his parents’ house on Kloosterdwarsstraat. He had gained his experience with the well-known silversmith Thijs de Haas.

On the bottom it says: 29, Klaas Dijkstra.
