Description from the seller
2000 Gaja 'Darmagi' Langhe Cabernet Sauvignon DOC - Iconic Piedmontese Cabernet
Description:
A bold, legendary Super-Piedmontese Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the world's most visionary winemakers.
Darmagi (meaning "what a pity!" in Piedmontese dialect) is Angelo Gaja's iconic tribute to Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1978 in the prestigious commune of Barbaresco. This 2000 vintage is a masterclass in how international varieties can beautifully adapt to and express the unique, mineral-rich terroir of the Langhe.
Tasting Notes & Profile:
The excellent and warm 2000 vintage has reached a spectacular phase of maturity. The wine exhibits a deep, concentrated garnet color. On the nose, it is highly expressive and complex, bursting with dark cassis, black cherries, and blueberries, seamlessly layered with tertiary aromas of cedar, graphite, leather, sweet tobacco, and a touch of dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is broad, structured, and muscular, yet remarkably velvety. The fine-grained, fully resolved tannins are balanced by a vibrant mineral backbone and a savory, incredibly long finish.
