Exceptional and decidedly decorative vase from the renowned Karlsruher Majolika manufactory, designed by Fridegard Glatzle in 1956.

The design icon of the 1950s captivates with its harmoniously balanced, almost architectural form: Above a narrow base rises a strong, rounded vessel body that tapers into an elegant shoulder and a slim, slightly flared neck. The clear silhouette is an excellent example of the demanding West German ceramics design of post-war modernism.

Particularly impressive is the painstaking glaze. On a warm cream to ivory-toned ground, an abstract, dark brown line and craquelure motif unfolds, covering the entire body. The irregular lines form a lively graphical network and give the vase an almost drawn quality. Depending on the angle of light, different areas of the decoration come to the fore, so the surface always presents itself in a new way.

The combination of a strict, timeless form and expressive glaze design makes this vase an exceptional collectible. It works as a standalone piece as well as in a classic mid-century, modernist, or contemporary interior. It has a strong spatial presence and is ideally suited as a sculptural design object.
