A refined large natsume (tea caddy) by the renowned contemporary maki-e artist Nakamura Kosai, featuring an elegant Sumiyoshi-themed maki-e design.
The decoration depicts the classical scenery associated with Sumiyoshi Shrine, one of Japan's most celebrated cultural and poetic landscapes. Executed with fine gold maki-e techniques, the composition expresses harmony, tranquility, and the refined aesthetics of the Japanese tea ceremony.
Nakamura Kosai (Junji Nakamura, born 1955 in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture) studied under master maki-e artist Masaaki Omote before establishing his own studio.
