Description from the seller
Lodewijk Busing 1965 - (Maastricht)
In this painting I wanted to capture an intimate and idyllic moment of three young blonde riders who, on the backs of their horses, step along a beach access toward the open sea. I consciously chose to depict the characters from behind. This invites the viewer to look over the girls' shoulders and to experience the wide horizon.
The two girls in the foreground on the right sit on a larger brown horse and hold an elegant lace parasol aloft. With this I aimed to evoke a subtle, nostalgic and almost classical atmosphere. To their left, a smaller girl rides a dappled pony. To reinforce the unity with the surroundings, I gave them light, summery dresses.
I dynamized the movement in the tails and the seagrass along the path to suggest the palpable presence of a gentle sea breeze.
Style & Color Use
My approach to this panel leans strongly on light impressionism. I chose a fluent, decisive and, at times, paste-like brushwork. This is especially evident in the texture of the sand and the foam crests of the surf, with which I wanted to vividly capture the play of light.
Mood and emotion: With this work I strive to convey freedom and pure nostalgia. The painting for me symbolizes carefree moments from youth and the harmonious connection between human, animal, and the grandeur of nature.
I signed the painting with my artist’s name r.onder HS -Hultman
