Description of the work

“Love” is an original work that explores the complexity of human love through a surreal and symbolic composition. Love is one of the most beautiful feelings a human being can experience, but also one of the most dangerous. It has the power to elevate us beyond our own limits, make us feel invincible, and give meaning to our existence. However, when it becomes absolute surrender, it can transform into a force capable of consuming everything, like the flames of the sun when we fly too close.

The work was built on a wooden panel selected for its natural texture and subtle irregularities. Rather than hiding or removing them, I chose to preserve these characteristics as part of the piece’s own concept. These imperfections represent love itself. From a distance, love can seem beautiful, harmonious, and even perfect. Yet, when looked at up close, contradictions, wounds, imperfections, and aspects that are usually overlooked begin to appear, just as with wood. I wanted the surface of the piece to reflect that reality—the imperfections, unevenness, and irregularities inherent to love—and for the natural characteristics of the wood to become part of its visual meaning.

The figure depicted in this work remains trapped within a frame that symbolizes the invisible barriers we build when we live for another person. Its broken wings speak of abandoned dreams, the loss of freedom, and the sacrifices made in the name of a feeling that, little by little, has emptied it from within. The wounds show the price of staying where one can no longer grow, while its uncomfortable posture reflects the exhaustion of someone trying to hold up a reality that is crumbling.

The heart, expelled from the depths of its being, represents the total surrender of someone who has suffered so much that they have ended up empty, with nothing inside. The blood that runs along the frame is not only pain; it is the trace of everything that was given without measure. Because love can inspire us to fly, but it can also tear our wings away when we forget who we are.

This work speaks to that moment when we realize that loving should not mean disappearing. No feeling, no matter how intense, should demand that we renounce our dreams, our identity, or our own freedom.
