The painter showed talent from a young age and developed into a painter with a completely unique style.

Early on he came into contact with the well-known painter Jan Bevort (1917-1996) who helped him develop his talent. After John Bevort he worked for some time with the interior- and church-painter Jan Jumelet.

Ernens became especially known for his colorful, somewhat suggestive and relief-like landscapes and flower compositions.

Several exhibitions of his work have been held, and Gerard Ernens was a member of the International Organization of Free Art.

Gerard painted from the very beginning with the palette knife. His paintings have a light impressionistic touch and are nevertheless clearly recognizable.
