Vincenzo Caiazza (1977) - Atrani

On the auction block: an oil painting on panel titled "Atrani," by the painter Vincenzo Caiazza. The panoramic XL format of 40x80 cm enhances the spectacular coastal stretch of one of the most characteristic and evocative villages of the Amalfi Coast.

The work offers a view with strong scenic impact, capturing the perched village that faces directly onto the sea:

The coast and the village (on the left): The composition unfolds from the left side, dominated by the typical white and colored houses of the town, perched above the sea. At the far end there is a rich Mediterranean vegetation with vibrant shades of green and touches of pink-violet that recall the bougainvillea blooms.

The monumental architecture (in the center): The characteristic light-colored stone arch structure stands out, serving as a powerful base and connecting element between the town and the water, topped by the soaring silhouette of the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena with its bell tower, a true visual centerpiece of the village. A foreground arch creates a suggestive suspended bridge over the cliff.

The sea and the background (on the right): More than half of the canvas is dominated by a vast, deep sea in ultramarine blue, whose ripples reflect the sunlight and the profiles of the arches. In the distance, wide and majestic mountains rise against a clear sky, fading into blue and violet tones that lend a sense of extraordinary perceptual and atmospheric depth to the entire scene.

The painterly approach of Vincenzo Caiazza combines figurative precision with a sensibility almost impressionistic:

The color application: The painting exhibits rich materiality typical of oil, laid on with decisive and at times bold brushstrokes (especially visible on the water’s surface, on the rocky walls, and on the distant mountains), capable of giving volume and dynamism to the forms.

Use of light and color: The chromatic contrast is sharp and bold. The vibrant, almost hypnotic blue of the sea provides a perfect counterpoint to the warm pastel tones of the houses (cream, pink, ochre) and to the dazzling white of the sunlit façades. The sunlight seems to come from the left, fully illuminating the village and leaving the majestic mountain range in a soft partial shadow on the background.
