For a time, I worked on the production of the film "Loving Vincent." During this period, I became interested in BreakThru Films' earlier projects, particularly puppet films, in which hand-crafted figures created an extraordinary, slightly surreal world. It was this aesthetic that inspired a series of painterly experiments with portraiture.
I didn't want to paint a portrait of a specific person. I wanted to create a figure who seems familiar, yet remains mysterious.
