This collection builds a bridge between protest music and visual art, reinterpreting songs that marked history and the struggle for freedom.

Inspired by “Grândola, Vila Morena,” by Zeca Afonso, this poster visually translates the message that “the people are the ones who command most.” The composition is dominated by red carnations, a symbol of the Carnation Revolution, and by a powerful metaphor: the container holds multiple faces of António de Oliveira Salazar, representing the dictatorship and the authoritarian power. In contrast, the central figure symbolizes the Portuguese people, who “devour” the dictator, in an inversion of the popular expression that “the government sucks the people dry.”

The work conveys the idea that, despite the oppression and exploitation exercised by dictatorial regimes, the collective strength of the people is always greater. No dictator can resist the union, the will, and the voice of a people determined to win their freedom. It is a tribute to resistance, to democracy, and to the spirit of April, expressed through a contemporary graphic language rich in symbolism.
