Sofia Pereira - A lua de cigarro - 2020s

Inspired by Letter XVIII of the Tarot, this illustration addresses the Moon's symbolism as a representation of emotions, intuition and the unconscious. The card warns of fears, illusions and scenarios created by our own minds, reminding us that not everything we feel corresponds to reality.

In this contemporary and lighthearted interpretation, the Moon appears exhausted from being ignored in its warnings. After repeatedly watching the same decisions, the same mistakes, and the same emotional cycles, it simply decided to light a cigarette, in an attitude of resignation and irony toward the human condition.

At the bottom of the poster, the Sun's rays already begin to peek out discreetly, hung between darkness and light. Its presence symbolizes hope and clarity that inevitably follow emotional chaos, but only when conflicts are faced and resolved. Only then can the Sun finally intervene, taking its place in the next Tarot card and bringing truth, serenity and a new perspective.

A piece that crosses esoteric symbolism with humor and a critique of the human tendency to ignore one’s own intuition, transforming a traditional Tarot card into a contemporary visual narrative.
