Original work by Jan Hendrikse, a leading figure of the Dutch avant-garde and a member of the international Zero movement, known for his minimalist assemblages and his poetic use of everyday objects.
In this composition, at once simple and ingenious, the artist transforms two genuine U.S. $1 bills into small folded shirts, suspended between two pencil-drawn lines. With this minimalist gesture, Hendrikse distorts a universal symbol of economic value to create a familiar, light and playful object.

About the artist

His works, grounded in accumulation, assemblage and the détournement of everyday objects, occupy an important place in the history of European conceptual art in the second half of the 20th century.
