Unstable Balance

Unstable Balance is an original sculpture by Italian artist Angelo Scardino, made in PLA through modeling and 3D printing, subsequently refined by hand through cubing, pigmentation, and a glossy protective finish.

The work represents an upside-down human figure, gathered in an acrobatic position that requires strength, discipline, and control. The body, however, does not present a uniform surface: it is crossed by a dense stratification of images, vivid colors, marks, and fragments drawn from pop and urban imagery.

The pose, traditionally associated with balance and inner concentration, thus comes into contrast with the visual overload of the surface. The figure seems to seek stability while being invaded by stimuli, desires, information, and images belonging to contemporary society.

The two main chromatic solutions radically modify the perception of the sculpture. On one side, a lively and multicolored composition dominates, resembling a continuous flow of icons and graffiti; on the other, amber, orange, and red tones emerge, with an effect reminiscent of fire, combustion, and transforming matter.

The work thus changes appearance depending on the viewing angle. The colored surface is not a simple decoration but becomes a second skin: an unstable external identity built through images, consumption, memory, and cultural contamination.

The glossy finish enhances the colors and follows the anatomical twists of the body, creating reflections that differ with the light and making the sculpture particularly dramatic even in contemporary and minimalist settings.

Angelo Scardino, born in Grottaglie in 1986, is a sculptor and lecturer in Plastic and Sculptural Disciplines.

After training at the Artistic High School “Lisippo” in Manduria, he earned a first- and second-level academic diploma in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce, receiving the rating of 110 and praise.

His research merges traditional sculpture, digital design, and 3D printing. Through figures, symbolic objects, and contemporary materials, the artist investigates the relationship between identity, society, memory, pop culture, and the transformation of matter.

He was selected as a finalist for the Mondadori Art Prize 2025, received the Michelangelo Prize 2025, and participated in contemporary art exhibitions and events, including Paratissima.

Packaging and Shipping

The sculpture will be packed directly by the artist with particular attention to the most delicate parts.

Protective materials, padding, and a rigid container appropriate to the artwork’s dimensions will be used. The shipment will be carried out with trackable service and, where provided, insured.

The certificate of authenticity will be placed inside the packaging in a separate protective envelope.
