This lidded box (functioning as a biscuit jar or decorative container) was designed by the Italian designer and ceramist Pierluigi Fuga for the BF Design manufactory, active in the latter half of the 20th century in the production of high-end home accessories.
The item preserves the original label perfectly intact on the lid, bearing the brand logo and the author’s autograph in cursive.
Stylistic Characteristics and Decoration
The work stands out for a refined aesthetic, based on an organic and structured formal framework. The sharp geometry of the upper conical section blends coherently with the plasticity and volumes of the lower base.
Sculptural Decoration: The bulging base is relief-modelled with vertical engravings that segment the surface into modules of overlapping panels. In the center of the lower band, the plastic finish creates an asymmetrical volumetric interruption with a strong three-dimensional impact. The top knob of the lid faithfully reprises this stylistic figure, forming an artistic extension with fluid and plastic lines rather than a mere functional element.
Painted Decoration: The finish is entirely executed and hand-painted. The use of an airbrush technique allows for a soft, shaded color application without sharp transitions. The cool tones of gray-blue and white enhance the volumes and gather in the recesses of the sculpted grooves, alternating with bruno-gold inserts in the central section to emphasize the depth of the modelling.
