A heavy antique double inkstand dating from around 1900–1910, entirely made of solid cast brass with a dark patina, featuring an ornate open back and including two removable brass insert boxes and the original white porcelain inner pot.
Description from the seller
NL:
A beautiful and heavy antique double inkstand (inkstand) in luxurious Neo-Baroque / Historicism style, dating from around 1900.
This high-quality desk accessory is entirely made of solid cast brass (yellow copper) with a splendid, authentic dark patina.
The back panel is beautifully pierced with graceful scrollwork (volutes), acanthus leaves and mythological figures, making it also excellent as a mail holder.
The inkstand rests on elegantly shaped, sturdy claw feet.
At the front there is a recessed plateau for the elegant placement of fountain pens.
Special plus for collectors:
This inkstand is exceptionally complete. It comes with two removable brass insert trays and the original white porcelain inner pot. Since this ultra-thin porcelain has been lost from most inkstands over the decades, this lot is extra rare and collectible.
The underside shows the honest, artisanal sand-casting with the original bolt and screw mounts and a vague casting/model number (S or 5), which guarantees the authenticity of this object.
Condition:
The object is in excellent, unaltered and completely original condition. The hinges of both ink pots operate smoothly and seal well. The metal shows no cracks or restorations. The porcelain inner pot is fully intact. (See the extensive photo series for a good personal impression of the details).
