Rare first edition of one of the classic works on gnomonics and sundials, written by M. de La Hire (1640-1718), a prestigious mathematician and member of the Académie Royale des Sciences.

Published in Paris by Thomas Moette in 1682, the work explains universal methods for the design and construction of sundials on different surfaces.

Copy in French, bound in period half-leather, with 274 pages and 9 folding plates engraved with geometric schemes and constructions of sundial quadrants. It preserves the frontispiece engraving and shows the wear typical of a work over three centuries old, remaining in generally good condition.
