For sale is a two-volume edition of the "Commentarius in Sacram Scripturam" by Father Jacobus Tirinus (Jacques Tirinus) from Antwerp, a member of the Society of Jesus, published 1736 in Lyon by Deville. Tirinus, a Flemish Jesuit of the 17th century, produced with this work one of the most comprehensive and influential biblical commentaries of his time, which expounds the entire Holy Scripture – Old and New Testament – verse by verse, bringing together patristic, historical, and philological sources. The commentary first appeared in 1632 in Antwerp and achieved wide European distribution through numerous reissues over more than a century, serving in Jesuit educational institutions as a standard work of Catholic biblical exegesis.
