For sale is the first volume of the "Dogmatum Theologicorum" by Louis Thomassin (Ludovicus Thomassinus), published in 1680 in Paris by the publisher Franciscus Muguet and dedicated to the Incarnation of the Divine Word (de Verbi Dei Incarnatione). Thomassin (1619-1695) was a French Oratorian and one of the most important theologians and canon lawyers of the 17th century, whose three-volume work on the Incarnation, the doctrine of God, and the divine attributes (1680-1689) is regarded as his theological magnum opus and masterpiece. The treatise on the Incarnation, which is contained in this edition, systematically treats the dogmatic foundations of the doctrine of the Word made flesh and ranks among the most influential contributions of French Baroque scholasticism to Christology.

Thomassin was also known for his monumental work on the "Ancienne et nouvelle discipline de l'Église," which went through several French and Latin editions; yet his dogmatic treatises on the Incarnation established his reputation as one of the most thorough systematic theologians of his era. Franciscus Muguet was among the respected Parisian publishers of theological literature in the late 17th century. For collectors of patristic and scholastic theology as well as works of the French Baroque Oratorian school, this first printing represents a significant testimony to the history of dogma.
