Hellenica XVII – Classic Volto with gold drips
Great contemporary painting (140 × 140 cm) by Florentine painter Francesco Farolfi (1958), part of the series "Hellenica", dedicated to reinterpretation of the ideal beauty of Greek and Roman statuary.
The subject, inspired by models from classical antiquity, is reinterpreted through an essential and material painting, played on a range of warm grays, whites and earth tones. The face emerges from the surface like a suspended apparition in time, maintaining the expressive force and balance of ancient sculptures.
A distinctive feature of the work is the particular finish made up of vertical gold drips, produced with gold powder dispersed in a binder and applied entirely by hand. These metallic veils are not purely decorative, but create a dialogue between the permanence of the classical form and the fluidity of matter, transforming the surface into a set of light, movement and transparency. Depending on the lighting, the gold reflects light with varying intensity, giving the painting a mutable appearance.
The work was made entirely by hand on a meticulously prepared MDF panel, reinforced on the back by a sturdy peripheral wooden frame that ensures stability and resistance to warping.
A work with strong stage presence, designed for contemporary spaces, galleries or collections of contemporary figurative art.
Technique: mixed technique: pigments in powder (earths, titanium white) dissolved in acrylic binder and golden powder finish dissolved in a natural organic binder, on MDF panel reinforced by a peripheral wooden frame on the back
