Worshipper of Buddha - Myanmar

DESCRIPTION

Burmese bronze statuette depicting a monk in prayer, kneeling, hands joined in a gesture of prayer and devotion (anjali mudra).

The sculpture features a beautiful old patina with natural green and brown oxidation due to its age. Lost-wax artisanal casting.

The stem on which the statuette sits stems from the fact that it was likely part of a pair of adorants surrounding a Buddha statue.

I cautiously date it to the mid-19th century, but in light of the “excavation patina,” it is certainly older.

Sold with an artisanal base that would deserve to be replaced.

ETAT

Very good overall antique condition with normal signs of age, oxidation, and small surface irregularities consistent with an authentic antique sculpture (see photos).
