Softly awaken, an original oil on panel portrait in impressionist style, 60 × 40 cm, hand-signed, created in 2026 in the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
To the future owner,
This work comes most fully into its own in a quiet place, where you can step back a bit but also come close. The paint is applied thinly and transparently in some areas, while especially the landscape and the green forms around the boy are painted thicker and looser. Light that falls obliquely from the side onto the canvas makes those differences in paint texture most visible.
In cool daylight the turquoise and blue-green tones become stronger; in warmer evening light the skin and the red in the hair come forward more. I would rather not hang the work in direct sunlight, but in a spot with soft, changing light. In this way the painting will continually gain a little different character as the day progresses.
I hope that it becomes a quiet point in the room at its new location—a painting that does not immediately reveal everything, but slowly moves with the light.
Oil paint on panel 0.6 cm
I enjoy painting portraits of young men and adolescents because in that life stage something special is visible: a vulnerability that has not yet been hardened by the world. Their faces and bodies carry an indefinable quality – they are not fully formed yet, but full of promise and possibilities. It is precisely that in-between moment that interests me: no longer a child, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what can still become and the fragile awareness that this stage lasts only a short time.
All series – from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset and intimate scenes with cats – can be found on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motivations:

I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared linen or smooth panels, and top-quality oil paint rich in pigment. Each work is made with care and dedication – meant to endure for a long time, not only in terms of material, but also in meaning.
