Description from the seller
243 pages 30 x 22 cm
Original edition. Limited print run of 900 copies on tinted vellum, this copy is numbered 371 (the second paper after 60 on Japan). Hardcover. The cover is illustrated by Giraldon with Art Nouveau floral compositions, lithographed in black and silver.
The work is adorned with 65 plates hors-texte of art bindings by Lortic, Ruban, Engel, Champs, David, Canape, etc., drawn from the collections of Octave Uzanne, Edouard Rouveyre, Philippe Burty, etc. Reproductions in photogravure.
"This work is one of the best and most illustrated on luxury bookbinding of the 1880s, alongside La Reliure moderne by Octave Uzanne published the previous year. It is also amusing to note that Giraldon’s design for the cover of La Reliure moderne d'Octave Uzanne was reused for this volume, without even removing the monogram of Octave Uzanne that can be seen in the corners, accompanied by that of Édouard Rouveyre."

TITLE: The Luxury Binding: The Book and the Amateur by L. Derôme; unpublished illustrations, reproduced from the original types by Aron Frères, drawings by G. Fraipont, C. Kurner, M. Perret. Frontispiece binding painted by J. Adeline.
