Giorgio de Chirico (1888–1978) is regarded as the founder of Pittura Metafisica and ranks among the most influential artists of modern times, whose enigmatic cityscapes and dreamlike compositions have profoundly influenced Surrealism. His photographic oeuvre includes portraits of numerous leading artists—including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Andy Warhol, and Bernhard Luginbühl—and is regarded as a valuable documentary record of 20th-century art history.
