About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most significant private art estates of German modernism and Expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by important artists from Classical Modernism to postwar art, and uniquely fused photography, visual art, and art-historical documents. Together with Klapheck he published the Catalogue raisonné of the graphic prints 1977 - 1980. After his death, a substantial part of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – A Century’s Inheritance: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the exceptional quality and art-historical relevance of the collection accessible to a broad audience and established Hans Kinkel’s estate as an important testimony to German art and cultural history.
