Willem Korteling comes from a well-known Deventer painters’ family. His father Bartus Korteling was his painting teacher. The back yard of the parental home was an inspiration source for studies of flowers, small livestock but especially chickens, with which he gained his fame. He painted in a way that was as liberal as it was generous in execution. His works are exhibited in the Museum of Deventer and the Kröller-Müller.

The solid wooden frame has the dimensions of 44x54 cm.
The frame has a small blemish on the left side.
The painting is rendered in very detailed strokes with attention to small details.
