Description from the seller
SANTO TERRA (1980) - The Storm Passes - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media, Acrylic painting · Digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
On a sandy, scarred and aged background an entire alphabet of signs is inscribed: a black palm tree, a red sun, an open eye, a black ox and a stag, an ivory idol head, a gold jug, a circle of children, a sailing ship upriver on a blue river where two fish swim. Words emerge — VIAJE, THE STORM PASSES — amid crosses, numbers and a votive red hand. Rough painting, earthy impasto, spirit of votive offering and cave painting. A naive and joyful cosmogony where each symbol tells the journey, the crossing, the hope after the rain. Solar and Mediterranean outsider art — the fervor of origins, transfigured.
Mixed media: acrylic paint on pigment-ink print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of color and durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed SANTO TERRA · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
SANTO TERRA is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop and free figuration. Under the name SANTO TERRA, the Atelier reconnects with the energy of outsider art and Free Figuration: spontaneous black line, quirky and frontal figures, votive signs and pictograms, vivid flat colors, spirit of votive offerings and wall writing.
SANTO TERRA gathers joyful and raw figures — creatures, musicians, totem animals, alphabets of symbols — captured in the momentum of free and jubilant painting. The through line: a dialogue between the spirit of Mediterranean outsider art and a contemporary pop sensibility, where the pictorial matter enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
